Brett Is A Fourth Generation Bayman.

Over thirty years ago, he started harvesting clams and raising oysters as a teenager and continued into his early twenties. He was forced to stop when he became a Marine Conservation Officer for the state of NJ due to the conflict of interest. His career allowed him to spend days on the boat but it wasn't the bayman's life. Now retired, he is able to pursue his passion out on the water. Through his career as a Conservation Officer and having a degree in Marine Biology, Brett understands both the commercial harvesting and law enforcement sides of the fisheries and the importance of conservation. He is helping to preserve the delicate ecosystems of the Great Bay and Mullica River through restoration projects to ensure the sustainability and future of the marine resources.

The Rustic Crab logo

Marin Fisheries

was started as an LLC in 2014 to buy and sell catches.

In 2023, we expanded Marin Fisheries by opening the stand, we called The Rustic Crab, which at the time was a utility trailer and display case.  We wanted to preserve the memory and history of New Gretna and therefore named our stand after The Rustic which once stood on the corner of Route 9 and N. Maple Ave where our stand is now located.  In 2024, we purchased the customized container to create the present store. Owning a family run business, it is important to us to provide our customers with a quality product for a reasonable price.  As a local business, it is important to provide the freshest locally harvested crabs and shellfish to maintain the integrity of the baymen's heritage.  Together, our goal is simply to provide our customers with the best local crabs and shellfish at an affordable price.  We plan on continuing to evolve to meet the needs of our customers.
